Little Big Adventure is one of the best action-adventures I've ever played. The gameplay is really engaging, the story is simple but very effective (I just love saving the world, you know), the music is wonderful (soundtrack avalible, yay!) and... full review even the graphics stands quite good for today standard. So if you want to experience one of the greatest games of the past gen, don't hesitate, LBA is what you're looking for.
One of the best action-adventure games in GOG's collection, undoubtedly. ... full review
The other gripes people here list aren't ones I share, personally. The game is challenging, but not at all excessive in its challenge, if you're up to it. Combat is EXTREMELY fun -- occasionally frustrating, but that's part of the appeal, somehow. The camera isn't perfect, no, but doesn't seem much better or worse than in any other well-made game. I have no idea what the save points complaint is about either -- if anything the game has too many save points, as they come after every section you complete, with a checkpoint in between.
LBA is essentially comprised of puzzle/platform portions as blended with combat sections, and Adeline got the mixture damn near perfect here.
Story-wise, it certainly holds up, and Twinsen's internal dialogue/voice-acting really bring you into the experience (personally, I loved the VA). Probably my only real complaint about the game, at least through to about the halfway point, is Zoe's story, and her character in general, are virtually non-existent. Especially having played the latest LBA game recently, it doesn't come close. But this is nitpicking in light of everything else the game has to offer.
The audio is phenomenal. The inclusion of a soundtrack here is easily worth the purchase price alone.
Graphically, the game still holds up VERY well, even after more than 10 years -- granted, the leap in graphics was not as big these last couple of generations, but nevertheless.
Bottom line is, if you like or love adventure games and/or platformers, this is a gem to have for your collection.
One of those games that translates a few measley key presses into amazingly fluid control. LBA makes it just involved enough that you are totally controlling the Twinsen, and you need to stay attentive and be on top of things, but you will never... full review have to wrestle with the controls or do too much too fast. This is the core of the gameplay.
The raw combat is similarly fun, but puzzle solving makes the package complete. The graphics are charming with a dusky, mysterious cartoony attitude. Very atmospheric. The story is OK by game standards, but bottom line, there is no way you won't have a whole bunch of hours of fun with Little Big Adventure, and it's definitely not a rehash of any other game you've played.
